Before the first launch

Give the first save the cleanest possible start. Install current PS5 system software and the latest I Am Cat update, restart the console if an update just finished, and check that both Sense controllers are charged. A first-session problem is easier to diagnose when the software and controllers are already known quantities.

  • Install pending system and game updates.
  • Charge both Sense controllers.
  • Use the controller straps.
  • Move loose cables and breakable objects out of reach.

Scan the room and confirm the floor

Complete the PS VR2 play-area scan in the space you will actually use. Look down and make sure the virtual floor agrees with the real floor before you begin reaching for cat-height objects. Leave a buffer around furniture: I Am Cat makes it tempting to lean past the boundary for one more grab.

If the room scan drifts or the boundary appears in the wrong place, pause and set up the area again rather than compensating with your body.

  • Use even room lighting.
  • Clear the area at hand and knee height.
  • Confirm the floor before loading the save.

Run a five-minute control check

Start in an open area and test one action at a time: look around, move a short distance, stop, pick up an unimportant object, place it down, and turn. This is enough to reveal a tracking or comfort problem without risking an objective item.

If a paw jumps or a grab misses, repeat slowly while the controller is in front of the headset. If the problem persists everywhere, recheck tracking. If it happens only on one object, continue with the objective troubleshooting guide instead.

Do not follow a Quest-only step

A room, multiplayer feature, shortcut, or task order shown in a Quest video may not exist in the PS5 build. Check the platform label before following a walkthrough, and use the objective on your own screen when an older video disagrees.

Protect the first save

Complete one simple objective, wait for its visible or audible completion feedback, and return to a stable point before ending the session. If progress fails to update, record the task text and last successful action before restarting. Avoid deleting the save as a first response; a missed trigger and a damaged save are not the same thing.

  • Capture the exact objective text.
  • Note the room and item involved.
  • Restart once from a clean launch.
  • Use the objective recovery guide before starting over.
